Hilton Glasgow

Hilton Design Standards Meet Glasgow Culture.

business Model Transformation

The Opportunity.

After designing Hilton’s Glasgow offices in 2012, OPX reprised the role when it came time to move to a new location. The project team – Hilton, JLL, and OPX – worked together to select a recently renovated historic building close to City Center in Glasgow that would provide for employee growth over the next few years. The building was chosen for offering the latest in life safety, as well as floorplates with full-height glass on the perimeter. The new office, spanning 3 floors and 42,000 SF, was influenced by the recent OPX design at Hilton’s Memphis headquarters.

The Process.

In keeping with Hilton design standards, developed by OPX, the workspace features open adjustable-height workstations along the perimeter and several glass-fronted offices. A number of telephone rooms can be utilized for quick calls, while glass-walled huddle rooms off the elevator lobby are a convenient place for hosting visitors. On the ground floor, the reception area flows into the large break room and two multi-purpose rooms outfitted with operable partitions. The Innovation Room on the first floor serves the finance team, with an AV / IT package that allows for connection between the Memphis and Dallas office locations. Eye-catching components throughout the space include partial open ceilings, wood slat paneling, custom conference room film, and, most notably, large-scale images featuring Glasgow’s vibrant culture and history.

A key objective of the new space was the inclusion of breakroom amenities. The break rooms serve as a respite for coffee breaks, connection, and collaboration among team members. The main break room, located on the ground floor, is adjacent to the multipurpose rooms for training and events. Operable partitions can open these rooms for a bigger space, or open outwards for town hall and global meetings. A variety of kitchen appliances (including a milk fridge!), dining tables, lounge seating, and ping pong and pool tables complete the break room amenities.

OPX was mindful to design to LEED standards, selecting energy efficient fixtures and utilizing recycled-content finishes.

The Impact.

In our decades-long relationship with Hilton, we have enjoyed the opportunity to explore the culture of other countries in designing to their specific requirements unique to their location. We pride ourselves on our ability to design to a budget while fulfilling the design intent and making the client happy with the end product. OPX once again delivered for Hilton on its promise to make good companies work better.
